Magic Anatomy and Energy

There are four sources of magic within the body and two additional sources of magical energy outside of the body. All forms of magic draw their energy from one of these sources and it is up to the caster to properly manipulate the energy into magic, though for many that’s an impossible task.

All sources of energy are like glasses of water underneath a steady drip. When it is used up, it must be refilled. For some, it recovers quickly but for others, it can take years to regenerate.

Praecordia Energy

Centered in the same area as the heart, praecordia energy feeds unique and/or specialized magics. Almost every expression of praecordia energy is unique to the caster, though sometimes family lineage has influence. In Belain, the Alchemists use praecordia energy powered by their celestial gods to execute their Alchemy. Similarly, spirit walkers, dream walkers, the shadowmarked, and other similar magic users are powered with praecordia energy, though the exact reason why is unknown.

Venter Energy

Centered behind the belly button, venter energy feeds directly into elemental magic. Unlike other forms of energy, venter energy is directly connected to the physical body. If the umbilical region becomes permanently damaged, venter energy can no longer be accessed. Just as the umbilical cord connected us to our mothers, it now connects us to natural energy. It is, however, worth noting that sprites, dragons, and other elemental creatures cannot be severed from their magic due to the fact that, unlike our cups of water, they cannot be depleted of venter energy.

Mens Energy

Located in the frontal lobe, mens energy is used to practice any realm of mental magic. This includes illusionism, telepathy, telekinesis, and divination. Unlike other forms of magic, when mens energy is overused, it can cause headaches, sickness, blindness, memory loss, and even comas. Mens energy can only be mastered through practice and meditation, as well as cleansing diets and exercises to clear the mind and open the “third eye.”

Anima Energy

Centered along the sternum, anima energy is also known as soul energy, as it is siphoned directly from the soul. Overusing anima energy can kill and even destroy the soul completely, though it is an energy source that can be called upon by anyone with the right rituals. Necromancy is the art of using anima energy, though most forms of it have been banned due to the moral implications of meddling in life and death. Additionally, it is extremely dangerous and can cause death even if one has enough anima energy.

Anima energy can be stored even after the death of its source. Because of this, many necromancers store the “dead energy” within a vessel so they do not have to expend their own anima energy.

Saecularia Energy

Saecularia energy is the life force of everything, from the living creatures to mountains and seas. Witchery, vocal, and runic magic all rely on saecularia energy, using the body or similar vessels to manipulate the energy into magic. Certain vessels, however, can be destroyed by the force of saecularia magic. The safest options are a wand or potion, as they cannot backfire as violently as runes. Additionally, not using the body as a vessel prevents deadly overreach, which turns the body to dust. However, using a vessel other than the body impairs the power of the spell.

Natura Energy

Similar to saecularia energy, natura energy is life force. However, it is specifically positive energy used in the healing process. Using certain vessels, usually plants or even the body, those who have the power to harness natura energy can speed and eliminate energy loss from the healing process. Unlike saecularia energy, natura energy cannot harmfully rebound, though it may exhaust the caster and cause extreme fatigue.
